Denjin Makai 2 / Guardians

One of the great hidden gems of Arcade Beat em Ups!

Edit: Giving this Arcade Game article some script touch up since this one has been collecting many dust.

I didn't really talk about arcade beat em up outside Capcom series alot, but this is one of those good beat em up game which were made by developers other than Capcom who were the reigning champion of Arcade in 90s. While Denjin Makai series itself didn't leave any particularly lasting legacy, I had plenty of fun playing this game that I bother to make some full article for this. To be honest I am really surprised that Banpresto tried to dabble in beat em ups when things were still rosy in Japan and make some decent titles if unpolished.

Denjin Makai is a Super Hero beat em ups which feature variety of Super Heroes archetype to play. Just like other beat em ups, Denjin Makai have little to no stories and plenty of actions. Basically it is a typical game of superheroes chasing down an evil scientist. Featuring 8 playable character ranging from your standard Super Hero to Ninjas, Mechas, Taoist Exorcist to your Token Waifus, Denjin Makai 2 roster is very Diverse for beat'em up genre standard which Capcom even don't frequently pull off and each characters had their own unique movesets.

Each Denjin Makai 2 characters have 6 command-input special moves ranging from screen swiper, uppercut or projectile. while the way to trigger the technique is the same for all characters but each characters move differed significantly in terms of effectiveness. Out of 8 characters the best ones are Skullbyle the Kaiju character who is really powerful despite being really slow and then the main character Girulian who is pretty much X-Men Cyclops expy that hits pretty hard and fast with his special moves. But my favorite would be Jinrei who is really cool ninja and i always used him when i played this game in arcade back when i was a kid. Denjin Makai 2 is definitely a very fun Beat em ups to play with your friends especially if they have some fighting game background

Denjin Makai 2 had quite great potential as beat em up game due to its surprisingly deep gameplay, however the game design only have 5 stages and each of stages are not that long either thus making the joyride last quite short. But you will likely to enjoy these 5 stages ride nonetheless as some stages had variations  and last time i managed to reach stage 4 boss before i get game over.

Denjin Makai 2 is quite forgettable game since they didn't really make good use of its assets to deliver any significant impact for most players unlike the Capcom Games which had better control at this aspect. I am also quite surprised that the developer of SRW series are the one who made this game though i would suspect they do collaborate with Winkysoft for this game. Given that Denjin Makai 1 is a step down to this game, I doubt that I will ever pay a visit to that game which surprisingly had SNES Port apparently.
