Super Mecha Champions Official End-of-service announcement

Well I am supposed to reserve today's post for my FGO 7th Anniversary but something else deserves the priority this time. Given the Super Mecha Champion has been constantly teetering since Mid of this year with the game end up in maintenance mode for almost 6 months, Netease has finally decided to pull out the plug and announced the online service for SMC will be officially terminated in 20th January 2025. This is quite expected as SMC Chinese counterpart, Mobile City Alpha had announced their service termination last week. The recent money laundering scandal by some of Netease execs most likely accelerate this game's demise along with many other Netease games. Regardless the poor treatment of SMC by Netease really make me greatly disappointed yet again.

To be honest, Super Mecha Champions is a fun game with great potential since a Battle Royale with Mechas is practically unheard off when it comes to gameplay concept. Many things could have been done but those potentials never realized. The fault mostly lies with Netease for being a deadbeat Chinese dev who never gave SMC a proper treatment to flourish and become a mainstream success which it rightfully deserves.

Since I have my share of exposure with Chinese corporations I do have some understanding with some of their mindsets when it comes to their business practice. For this instance their Utilitarian mindset backfire wonderfully. Because when their product does not meet their expectation which can be unrealistic at times, they will consider the product as a failure without even try to work out ways for the product to reach their potential. I just don't like Chinese dev way of doing things to let their creations disappear into obscurity even if the fanbase deeply care with the games.

With this turn of event, I will not likely ever play any future Netease games unless they change their ways of treating their product which is unlikely considering the Video Game business are not their main priority. Chinese entertainment product tend to make a very good first impression, but when it comes to staying power, they severely lack it to claim their dominant position in Video game market.

With the fare of SMC being set in place and got about 2 months left, I will just prepare some Mechatalk article to archive things up just because Netease being uncaring Dev. It won't be as extensive as Final Gear, but I will get all of the mecha that has been released throughout the lifetime of Super Mecha Champions.
