SD Gundam G-Generation Portable

 
 Considering I have got into G-Generation Eternal recently, I think it is the right time for me to talk about the first G-Generation game that I played, which is SD Gundam G-Generation Portable on PSP. It is an understatement how much I owed from this game and the bare minimum I could do is to make a short article for this series.

SD Gundam G-Generation Portable is the first G-Generation game available on PSP and features a really extensive numbers of  Gundam series as part of the roster at the time. G-Generation Portable have complete main series both for Universal Century and Alternate Universe. So whether it is Gundam 0079, V Gundam, G Gundam or Gundam Seed Destiny, G-Generation Portable got you covered and have faithful reenactment of these Gundam storylines as the stages. Not to mention G-Gen Portable got 1000+ units roster including weaker vehicle units like Tanks and Biplanes as part of the available roster which will not be seen in the future titles.

G Generation Portable will always have a very special place in my heart because I learnt so much about Gundam series thanks to this Game, not even Overworld resonated that much to me.  Through this game, I learnt many cool Side story Gundam series like Hathaway's Flash, Blue Destiny, SEED MSV and many more. Not to mention I was able to learn Japanese with the help of G-Gen Portable, so I have many gratitude with this game that I am able to get into many great Japanese exclusive Mecha series such as Sakura Taisen. Given how G-Gen Eternal might not reach my expectation due to Bamco shoddy practice, I might get into G Gen Portable in near future so that I could do a 100% run once and for all.

SD Gundam G Generation Eternal

 

 After Gundam UC Engage in late 2023, recently Bandai decide to step up their game in Mobile platform yet again and make use of their well-established SD G Generation series and make a Gacha game out of it. Thus around Mid-April 2025, Gundam has officially made their latest Gundam Mobile Game called SD G Generation Eternal open for service!

 As somebody who got deep into Gundam series owing to G-Generation and even learnt Japanese out of it, I obviously obliged to reply the invitation and pre-register SD G-Generation Article. While I could have straight away post article for this game to attract traffic, I decide to spend around 10 days to take a good look at G-Generation Eternal and make proper article out of it. This article will be Realm of Darkness take on G-Generation Eternal as Gacha Game and provide an appraisal of G-Generation Eternal potential as G-Generation title based on my past encounter experiences with the series.

SD Gundam G Generation Robot Spirits Phoenix Gundam

 Just right after SD Gundam Eternal make its Global Debut, a long time original of G Generation got a Robot Spirits treatment out of nowhere! Released as SDCS Model Kit few years ago, Phoenix Gundam make a return as Robot Spirits. But as usual, Bandai always make one of the more unique Gundam action figure ended up as P-Bandai item. Scheduled for September 2025 release, Robot Spirits Phoenix Gundam will be sold for 14300 Yen.

In G Generation, Phoenix Gundam usually served as the Lead starter mecha piloted by Mark Guilder, a male newtype who play the Ace pilot role for G Generation original. Phoenix Gundam is versatile all-round Mobile suit that has assortment of arsenals to confront enemies on any range as it is Flight-capable unit equipped with Newtype tech along with Feather Type funnel. At some point in G Generation series, Phoenix Gundam has the awakened version which makes it one of the more powerful units in the game and has finisher where it turn into plane mode and crash into enemy with Newtype Fiery energy in similar fashion with Zeta Gundam’s Waverider attack.

Considering G Generation has plenty of good Original mecha designs, we could see more G Generation released as Robot Damashii like Phoenix Gundam’s sidekick Tornado Gundam and other Phoenix Gundam’s derivatives like Master Phoenix. It is just up to Bandai to let these designs to trickle upon consumer Market. Though I personally not too amused with their abuse of P-Bandai Label.

SD Gundam G Generation Genesis Platinum

 I think it is almost 6 Months since i started Gundam Genesis and at last i managed to score a Platinum Trophy on this one. Roughly Speaking Gundam Genesis Heavily focus on UC Period around OYW and Post CCA Timeline because thats what i see where the Resources are poured in. In terms of Gameplay, i find Genesis lack in couple department such as Poor Battleship Selection and how the OYW are quite Handicapped in Late UC stages. Personally i find Gundam Genesis is not really my cup of tea as it is mostly Glorified Ads for Gundam Unicorn as the series pretty much hog the spotlight.

Starting SD Gundam Genesis

 While i am waiting for my Japanese copy of SRW V i am getting back to SD Gundam G Generation series. Recently i got myself a japanese copy for SD Gundam Genesis which i started to play after i completed SD G Gen Overworld. Using Vita TV the Graphic of Gundam Genesis is very gorgeous indeed and yet another step up from its predecessors. Like G Generation Spirits, Genesis only cover Universal Century series only and to be specific the early ones. I like Universal Century in general though i DO hate Gundam Unicorn taking the spotlight.

 After playing couple of stages, My first impression of G Generation Genesis is rather negative. Mainly because Genesis followed the same formula with G GenPortable which means straight retelling the story of Gundam series. Having seen this practice done many times over in Gundam Games do makes you sick of it. I guess Bandai is just being lazy because they could have made alternate take on Gundam series with this kind of game. But nope, instead they wasted effort on which the original work done a splendid job already. The gameplay mechanics do get better though as you need to put more effort on getting stuffs like Ace Pilots or Warships and Warships had more use compared to the previous iteration. While it appears that Gundam Genesis has no Custom BGM feature, The Devs at least put more effort on the BGM department this time. While i am seeing myself will not really enjoy this game i will at least finished the Unit Collection. I just hope Bandai is considerate enough to release another Gihren's Greed Iteration on Vita someday.

SD Gundam G Generation Genesis

 After 3 years of long wait finally we get a new G-Generation gundam game! more importantly for the newer generation platform too which have been long anticipated! Nothing much have been revealed so far since the Youtube trailer is basically nothing but so far from what i know the game will be released around middle of next year and the rosters will be likely Universal Century era only covering up to Gundam Unicorn. So just like G Generation Spirits in PS2 i guess the game will serve as a change of pace since the last 3 G-Gen games which covered AU timeline.

I really don't mind the game will focus on UC timeline since it allows the game focus on MSV series that previously didn't get much attention. However i will tolerate the game only if they don't put the same campaign map all over again which they loved to do for 0079 and Zeta. I also prefer if they don't put too much spotlight on Gundam Unicorn because personally i find the series to be unbearable with its autistic characters. But seeing the trend of Bandai in the recent years, there's a good chance they will do these things and if it turns out to be true while they slack on content, probably i will stick with G-Generation Overworld or the upcoming Extreme VS. I also hope one of these days Bandai could make a new version of Gihren's Greed eventually since the series deserve one too.

New SD Gundam G Generation announced!

My body can never be ready when i heard new G Generation games are released! and this time PSP got another new title called SD Gundam G Generation Overworld which makes the 3rd G Gen game have been released on PSP. The game will be released on September this year with the price of 6000 yen. From what i see the animation quality would be the same with G Gen world while the gameplay probably will get some minor tweaks but the determining factor whether the game will be good or not would be the number of playable MS in the game. Obviously a new G Gen game would be lacking without new series addition which are pretty awesome. The new addition series that caught my attention the most are Knight Gundam, Gihren no Yabou and Gundam Wing G-unit(Germinass and Hydra Gundam yay!). I expect we will get to see Unicorn Banshee as well and maybe some Jesta variants as well considering UC MSV is coming along too!. I am quite surprised that more SD Gundam series joining in the series but hopefully existing series will see more of its units especially Astray which was really lacking in G Gen World. I will get the better scan for the pics if i find one and I just list the Gundam series included in the roster down there.

Better Gameplay and more playable units

This Week Bandai just announced new G Generation Title after GWars called G Generation World, apparently this new GGeneration game will be released on PSP and Wii. The Game will add MS from Gundam Unicorn and 00 the Movie as the new series along with most if not all MS from GGeneration Wars. Just like my expectation when GGeneration was announced for Iphone, PSP got another great Mecha game for next year. I played GGeneration portable back then and it was easily  one of my favorite game other than Monster Hunter and from that game i learned alot about Gundam and Japanese as well.

This winter Bandai Namco plan to release SD Gundam G Generation touch and Gundam fighting spirit , i didn't see this coming since from my experience Namco Bandai is not that serious with Iphone platform considering the game that they have released so far such as Ace Combat X2 or Ridge Racer.

I will definitely looking forward for SD Gundam G Generation touch since i played G Generation before and enjoyed it, i just wonder if the rosters will be limited due to the size limitation from Itunes Apps and probably it won't have voice over features. For the Gundam fighting spirit, it resemble Gundam Battle Assault from PS1 based from the screenshot, If this game is for PSP it would be more convincing since Iphone are not meant for fighting games but probablythe mechanism will end up like Steet Fighter for ipod touch.

I didn't see Namco Bandai  would release Gundam games on Iphone considering the market in Japan is not that big(Except Dannychoo is a big fan of Apple), but probably it is only a recycled game just like other Major Japanese gaming company mostly do(FF1, Phoenix Wright, Street Fighter). For the SD Gundam Generation touch i would estimate the price would hit up to 12.99 AUD on the first release which is the max price for game apps and for Gundam fighting spirit perhaps it will be around 7.99 to 12.99 AUD.

These gives me another reason to get a ipod touch since i am pretty big fan of those games. I don't think they will be released on Western Market(which is the better way) but i hope it will be still available for the users from the west to buy. These games show some insight for another new gundam games in the future i believe.
