Madan no Ou to Vanadis
Another LN series worth mentioning! Madan no Ou to Vanadis or Magic Bullet King and Battle Princess is another Fantasy series that i have been looking at recently. Up until the current LN translation, i find the series got some potential even though mediocre for now but still definitely much better than the recent fads of Wish Fulfillment or Uber Reincarnations which plagued Japanese fantasy genre with disgusting self pandering works. The Premise of Madan no Ou is a Feudal story telling the fate of a Noble Son intertwined with Seven Girls wielding Great power called Vanadis after a fateful encounter with one of them. Skilled with Archery, the Noble Son wielding mysterious family heirloom bow took a Fire Emblem-esque conquest impressing the Vanadis one by one with his strength and wits and basically gathering a harem for himself.
The reason i believe the series got potential has to do with the lore, depending on how the Author handle the Fluff and unveiling the secrets, Madan no Ou can be a mediocre fantasy manga or a great one. The manga adaptation of the series are quite good so far managing to balance the storytelling and fanservice which i hope will keep go on. The protagonist is not that beta which is rather common for this genre and that's good. But for some reason the main character really remind me with the one of those typical lords from Fire Emblem series since he got quite similar characteristics with them save for wielding Bow as his main. My favorite chapter from the series so far is the amnesia arc since seeing an Ice Queen melts does make a good sight which i hope will get decent treatment with the manga. So if you like harem fantasy title you can give Madan no Ou a read and the LN translation are available over BakaTsuki.

Mushoku Tensei -Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu-
Marathoning the translated WN after reading the last Arifureta and while i got some complaints about the series it is still enjoyable read at the end. Out of the reincarnation based Fantasy i heard Mushoku Tensei is one of the popular one though just like most WNs it is not that outstanding but still passable. Like the similar pandering series, the series main protagonist is a fat loser otaku who died miserable death and end up reborn as a child named Rudeus in RPG esque world with surprisingly high talent of Magic. As Rudeus grows up he meets different strong people, explored the world, gathering harems and end up serving powerful being to fight against scheming deity. From the way the story being told, Rudeus story served as prologue of the Author's series which is not clear yet.

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou
Watching how /a/ raged on this series i decided gave the translated Web Novel a shot and overall it is pretty much amalgamation of Tate Yuusha and RE:Monster. The premise is about a beta-guy end up transferred to RPG world along with his classmates and being the weakest he eventually got betrayed and left for dead. Raged being betrayed, the beta eventually turned to emo/edgy OP Alpha guy with harem of multiracial girls lusting for him. The series pretty much comes out from the latest trend of reincarnation of beta dude becoming most op guy ever and steamrolling the bad dudes which is just pretty much a platform of self-inserts for otaku dude. In terms of writing, it is on par with Tate Yuusha so it is rather mediocre and uninspired. The only redeeming point of the series is that Arifureta got one of the best Vampire Loli and the MC actually tapped her. At the moment the translated WN is halfway through the series and currently the Japanese version is supposedly on the last arc. Given that i bothered to give the series a read, i might just finished the whole series.

Tsuyokute New Saga
Another promising JRPG manga that i found when lurking /a/ today and just like most of the genre manga i discussed so far, it is also based from light novel. Tsuyokute or be Stronger is about a Hero who fought against Demon King and defeated him with a great cost losing all his allies and lovers, before he become unconscious he reached out to the magical artifact that the Demon Lord protecting and found himself warped back to the past. With this circumstances which is basically New Game+ the Hero tries to prevent the tragedy to occur again and will he manage to succeed? I find the series to be promising but wonder once the plot device dries out will Tsuyokute be consistent or will it end up to be generic Shonen manga, and i think it really depends on the Author's capability to expand the universe of the series. Love triangle is kinda staple for this genre and i find the elf chick and the hero pairing reminds me of Parn and Deedlit from Lodoss Senki. I still wonder what is the significance of the black feather though i doubt the Hero and the Demon Lord is the same guy but i think Hero could be one in the future just like one from Rance verse.

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
I am revisiting and rewriting this article because it deserves a proper retrospective.
When I first wrote about Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, my focus was primarily on the light novel rather than the manga. At the time, the manga adaptation had only just begun serialization in 2014, so there wasn’t much material to discuss. Looking back from 2026, it’s quite surprising and impressive that the manga is still going strong.
I wasn’t a particularly avid light novel reader back then. However, after the success of Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, fantasy-themed light novels became noticeably more popular than they had been before 2014. Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero) was one of the early series that helped popularize the modern isekai fantasy boom.

Shiro no Koukoku Monogatari
I don't often discuss Manga series that haven't finished yet however i find this occassion exceptional. While Japanese anime industry is in decline, however Light novel is still going strong with interesting story. Shiro no Koukoku Monogatari or roughly the Story of White Kingdom is such title with Manga adaptation that catches my eye and another of those title that got potential. The story is about a guy who killed himself and wake up just to realize he is now a man with white hair, who signifies important role. As White haired people in his current place is one of a kind and chosen to rule as a King and at the moment the Kingdom needs a king to prevent its collapse. If you like Fantasy classic JRPG i think you will like the manga especially if you are in Seinen demographics. It is a rarity for JRPG style story got into Seinen ranga which means no Beta Protagonist for ya! The manga is so far translated until 2 volumes but it is enough to impress me and as long as it keeps itself coherent i think it will make a good series.
