Odin Sphere Parfom Gwendolyn Review

The Valkyrie takes up the flight.

Real Life takes the better of me in past few months, even though i tried to commit one review per month at least. I have been planning to put review for this particular rendition of Gwendolyn since last year but distractions seem to get the best of me. Odin Sphere will always have a place in my heart because it is beautiful JRPG series made by Vanillaware wrapped in Fairy Tale-esque presentation.

Parfom is an interesting lineup by Phat which tried to make another attempt making Action Figures in different proportion compared to 1/12 Scale. Unfortunately this lineup ends up on the failure end because the figure had worse trouble to properly stand without base support which even most Figmas managed to make without. For Gwendolyn i had a choice between Figma and Parfom, i think the reason choose the latter is because i want something to complement my Parform Momohime, another character from Vanillaware.

Gwendolyn is the Valkyrie princess of Ragnanival, a militaristic kingdom led by King Odin who constantly contest the ownership of magical Cauldron with Fairy Kingdom. Despite being a member of Royalty, Gwendolyn fights bravely in the frontline inspiring her subjects. Gwendolyn wields a powerful Psypher Lance inherited from her late sister Griselda. Beneath her stoic appearence however, lies a frail girl who thirst for her father's affection.

In the Odin Sphere, Gwendolyn plays the significant role by starting and ending the story of the game. Gwendolyn is the first playable main character out of five and then she faces the last of the Final Bosses in the Armageddon arc. Gwendolyn's love story with Oswald is what captivates me the most out of Odin Sphere. Gwendolyn basically represents the ultimate devotion a person can do for love considering she literally plunges herself to the deepest hell in order to save her beloved Oswald.

Parform's rendition of Gwendolyn do give generous amount of accessories to make up for the flaw compared to the Figma. The sculpt is good enough but if you look for playability, Gwendolyn's Figma win by far margin i think. Hopefully one of these days i am motivated enough to do Review for Parform Momohime which is long due already.
