Sengoku Rance 1/8 Senhime Review
The Battle Princess joins into the fray!
The continuation of Sengoku Rance series figure review and it is the turn for Senhime! At first i didn't intend to get this Battle Princess, but as i had Kenshin and planned to get Isoroku, might as well get her to complete the set. I am able to get this one for relatively cheap price but it does come with something in exchange.
in Ranceverse, Tokugawa Sen or more known as Senhime is a princess from Tokugawa Samurai clan in JAPAN. Senhime is the heir of her clan until Racoon Youkai invades her land and exterminate her family. She put up a fierce resistance against the Racoons but eventually overwhelmed and imprisoned in a dungeon. Her first encounter with Rance is not a pleasant one as the Lustful warrior took her virginity while she is being shackled after he defeated Tokugawa Ieyasu claiming that it is his reward for avenging her clan. Surprisingly Senhime doesn't really hold grudge and Rance able to recruit her to join Oda clan by promising her thrills of battle.
Surprisingly for person of her stature, Senhime is a consummate battle maniac and particularly loves fighting in a losing battle. In Sengoku Rance, she leads Ashigaru army but more oriented at offensive role instead of protecting the ally. Her innate high level Cap of 65 also makes her a very good combatant but Ieyasu is more reliable choice for dungeon fights. I remembered Senhime to be a rather troublesome unit in Sengoku Rance as you need to put her into fights constantly or otherwise she joins other clan. Then in order to get Senhime Character Clear you need to get her fight 3 losing battles which is troublesome if you don't use the Akashi Clan event. For all of these hassle you only get a better than average Ashigaru Unit that require significant amount of investment to make her unit to be useful asset for battle. So in my Sengoku Rance playthrough i picked Ieyasu most of the time since his recruitment scene is quite hilarious.
I think initially Senhime supposed to have a significant role in Sengoku Rance with her caliber of character but i guess as there are no more resource for another IF route, she is stuck to side character role until Rance IX where she had more prominent role. I haven't played the game but apparently in Rance IX, Senhime proved herself to be a proper Noble Lady despite being a battle maniac. Then she turns out to be another of Rance's Destined Girl and bore him a daughter later in Rance X.
For a figure that is over 10 years old, Kotobukiya's Senhime still able to withstand the passage of time when it come to sculpt. Unfortunately the one that i had had some issues as the protective coating probably had worn off with brown molds starting to invade the white parts and the hair is the worst one as it is partly discolored.
In terms of Character, Senhime is somewhere in the middle of Kenshin and Isoroku. She is good at fighting and capable of using her feminine charms if needed. However in the end Senhime is stuck at the position of Jack of all trade, master of none as Kenshin is undisputably better fighter and Isoroku is more readily using her charms. As such Senhime struggle to gain popularity even if she had what it takes to be main heroine rendering her one of the less popular Rance main girls.
Senhime's hairstyle kinda remind me of Kosmos from Xenosaga which makes me wonder if Alicesoft took some notes from her character when designing Senhime.
Senhime's innate high level cap makes a very powerful combatant and will give even Kenshin a good fight. However she lacks Lv2 Weapon Skills which makes her hard to compete other fighters that had such skill so Kenshin would end up most of the time on 1 vs 1 bout.
While i didn't intend to get Senhime figure at first, there is nothing to regret for even if the figure comes with glaring issues. Perhaps i could reconsider getting some custom repaint job to fix the hair discoloration issues when things settle down after the lockdown. In any case the Review for Isoroku's should be up within this month as well.
