Sengoku Rance 1/8 Uesugi Kenshin Review

Bishamonten protects us!

As i completed Kenshin's route in Sengoku Rance at long last, my self imposed restriction is gone and i am working on review for Sengoku Rance Series Figure. So i will be trying to review all 4 of my Sengoku Rance figurines within these two months and Uesugi Kenshin is the first one to be reviewed because she is the main reason why i bother playing Sengoku Rance from scratch and reached her route.

In Ranceverse, Uesugi Kenshin is a Female Samurai who is the head of Uesugi Clan of JAPAN. Gifted with Lv 2 Swordsmanship and 70 Level Cap, Kenshin is one of the strongest warrior in her lifetime. Her overwhelming strength makes Kenshin worshipped as living God of War which inspires fellow women to join under her flock making Uesugi clan renowned for their Female Warriors.  She easily overwhelms Rance in their first encounter but soon fell in love with the brutish warrior manly charm, making her conflicted with her emotion until she joins Oda Clan. Her pure love makes Rance felt awkward initially but eventually Kenshin's love fully blossomed when Rance put his act up to consummate her.

Kenshin is easily the best recruitable Warrior Unit in Sengoku Rance as her starter kit is broken enough due to her Goddess of War Passive Skill. Combined with Urza's Sniper Shot, Kenshin is able to render most enemy units unable to act throughout the battle. In terms of characteristic, Kenshin's personality have some similarity with Saber and essentially Japanese counterpart of the eternal main heroine. Having the qualities main heroine, Kenshin is easily the most popular Heroine in Sengoku Rance and even surpass Saber in terms of popularity at some point. It is just unfortunate that Alicesoft didn't make good use of Kenshin's character after Sengoku Rance making her fade into obscurity. If Rance X ever got a magnum treatment, Kenshin better be given more screentime.

Out of 7 Sengoku Rance Figurine made by Kotobukiya, I think Kenshin were given the most attention and effort befitting of her popularity. For a 6800 Yen Figurine, Kenshin is given quite generous amount of accessories which allow 3 different possible setups. You can have Kenshin in her in regular attire, Combat or her Emperor of JAPAN setup.

I got this figure for 60 SGD which is a steal given that Kenshin the most highly sought character out of Kotobukiya's rare Sengoku Rance series. Surprisingly for a 10 Year Old+ Figurine, her figure came in relatively pristine condition.

The Kotobukiya's Kenshin Figurine is sculpted in a way that Kenshin appears in spinning motion which tried to emulate her traits from the Sengoku Rance Game. In the battlefield, Kenshin relies on centrifugal force creating a whirlwing of blades to overwhelm her opponents. To the opposing regular soldier, Kenshin is a force of nature which only results in death when fighting her head on befitting to her God of War reputation. This is why the opponents are demoralized when Kenshin appears into the battlefield.

In Kenshin's route, after finding one of the three sacred treasure, Emperor Sword. Rance and Kenshin find themselves involved in Emperor Race which the victor are granted the title Emperor and absolute supremacy over people of JAPAN. Once Kenshin become the emperor, her hair ribbon become somewhat longer which is quite hard to notice if you skipped the text frequently.

The Emperor Sword itself is one of the Three Sacred Treasure of JAPAN which was once belongs to JAPAN's first emperor, Fujiwara Ishimaru who was close to uniting humanity until Xavier kills him. In Sengoku Rance Emperor Sword is one of the best item granting permanent+1 all combat stats which are invaluable for High stats characters. Kenshin is never seen to use the Emperor Sword even in her route, but she is always the first choice for this valuable item.

Some Comparison shot with Kenshin's Nendoroid Petit and surprisingly the Nendoroid Petit's helmet is compatible with Kotobukiya Figure. I might have considered getting Kenshin's Figma but unfortunately the sculpted is rather dated so i might refrain from getting one.

Even if Kenshin already fell into relative obscurity due to the bad habit of Japanese throwing away good character designs, she still remains uncontested as the ideal Female Samurai archetype. Personally while i do like Kenshin's design, Isoroku is still my personal favorite because the latter wins when it comes to maternal charm. In Sengoku Rance, Kenshin remains one the most invaluable ally which allows you to cheese through the game. While i haven't touched Rance X, I am not too fond of how Kenshin treated in the game because a character of her caliber deserves a second chance to shine instead of rendered as mentor role. Perhaps it will take more than a decade but maybe we will see some reboot for Sengoku Rance as well.
