Mobile Suit Gundam Ensemble Vol 12 Review

Featuring G-Self as the Posterboy!

This Review should have been put up 3 months ago but Procrastination got the better of me for this one. While the lineup struggle abit at first, Gundam Ensemble managed to survive for more than three years already with its solid concept for a 500 Yen Gundam Candy Toys Product. For the Volume 12, Bandai decided to feature G Reconquista with G-Self as the centrepiece for once despite the series is somewhat neglected by Bandai.

MS Ensemble 12 Feature High Mobility Zaku, G-Self and Gundam 7th as part of its roster and it is still heavy on Universal Century series with Alternate Universe on the side just like past few editions. Vol 12 is the first Ensemble series that feature G-Reconquista with G-Self and this one lives up its expectation as the posterboy of this Volume.

YG-111 Gundam G-Self

The Main Protagonist Mobile from G-Reconquista! the design might be slightly different than typical Gundam design but it is a solid one nevertheless. In terms of performance, G-self doesn't really stand out without its backpack units which enables the versatility of the unit.

G-Self Core Fighter with Space Pack

Rather Straightforward Support Vehicle for Ensemble 12 as you just need to plug off the plane and the backpack is ready to use for G-Self. Unlike the previous support vehicle, the Core Fighter utilize the regular Waist Joint of Ensemble series for its part which allows it to be supported by standard Gundam Ensemble stand base.

YG-111 Gundam G-Self with Space Pack

Without the backpack, the Ensemble version of G-Self  look rather scrawny but once the Space Pack is put on, this guy suddenly becomes very good looking! Easily one of the better entry in Gundam Ensemble series along with Nu Gundam HWS

MS-06R-1A Zaku II High Mobility Type (Black Tri-Stars version)

The Token Zeon MS Slot for this edition which always disdain the practice by Bandai. Compared to the typical Zaku, this version is rather heavy on the leg with extra booster and fuselage attached on it. Fortunately the next 4 Volumes of Gundam Ensemble are free from the mandatory Zeon MS shoved into the roster.

FA-78-3 Full Armor 7th Gundam

The final version of the EFSF Protagonist Gundam from Gundam Senki 0081 and there is a mobile armor version of it which saw some limited use in the story. Surprisingly it is not that bulky for a Full Armor Gundam but due to its blocky design which hamper the articulation, i can't really think of many ideas for the pose.

Overall Gundam Ensemble 12 is another solid entry for the lineup using the same formula for the roster just like past few editions. Surprisingly Two of the roster in this edition got P-Bandai treatment which provides the Heavy Firepower variant of the MS. I don't really take much shot for this edition due to lack of motivation at the time but the Review for Ensemble 13 will definitely make up for it.
