The new Teikoku Kagekidan is here!
As a fans of Sakura Taisen series, i have been anticipating the new series to live up to the Glory of its predecessor, which never come to fruition due to many factors. I suppose the main factor would be that Shin Sakura Taisen production value are just not good enough to survive its western release during COVID Pandemic topped by being available on a single platform only. To begin with probably it was a tall order to expect the new series to reach up to the glory of its predecessor without a strong vision. In any case i tried to support the Sakura Taisen series within my own mean and getting prize figure is one of it.
Since i haven't played the game what i know is that Sakura Amamiya is the lead heroine of the New Teikoku Kagekidan of the Shin Sakura Taisen who shared many similarities with her Predecessor. Just like Shinguji Sakura, Amamiya harbored a heavy crush toward her Squad Leader, Kamiyama Seijurou and inherits Shinguji's Yandere Characteristic as well.
The SPM Figure version of Sakura Amamiya is overall is a solid product for its type with a good packaging and decent sculpt. Since it is a prize figure, don't expect too much for the Face sculpt quality. While i am fine with the main heroine design, personally i am not too fond of with the new battle attire design since it kinda negate the charm of the Teikoku Kagekidan Heroines.
I would love to see the rest of the new Teikoku Kagekidan to get their SPM figure but given the rather lacking sales of the Game, i suppose the merchandising option for the series is kinda bleak
The original Sakura Taisen Tetralogy was an amazing Bishoujo game series because it has stellar Heroines and Music united by a single romanticized vision creating one of a kind miracle that is not easily replicated. On the paper, Shin Sakura Taisen Main heroines are just fine but the series lacks the grand vision that the predecessor had and opted for mainstream option instead which is probably the reason why the series wasn't as successful as its predecessor.
As for the SPM Figures, i think Sega could have released figures for the Original Teikoku and Paris Kagekidan Heroines which they badly need since those are still wonderful heroine designs which could get an update. On a side note, perhaps i also should tried to complete the article for Sakura Taisen 2 one of these days.
