Mobile Suit Gundam Ensemble 08 Review

Ensemble is one of the Gundam Candy Toy Lineup that caught my attention apart from converge because of its potential, serving as middle ground between Forte and Converge. While it is sold as 500 Yen per box, just like G-Frame some of the accessories are split into separate boxes which makes it worth 700 Yen Gashapon per model. But overall it is still worth it because you get to have those cool Mobile Suits with loads of arsenals in this lineup. Obscure but cool Gundam series like Advance of Zeta series are certainly finding a home in Gundam Ensemble.

The usual Format of Gundam Ensemble is 3 Mobile suits, 1 Vehicle and 1 Weapon accessories which allow more customization compared to Converge. For the 8th Edition it features 2 MS from F91 and 1 from Advance of Zeta. The 8th Edition is the best one so far as each of the Mobile suits got cool parts to play around. I had a complete set for the 7th and 4th but due to procrastination haven't got proper opportunity to make a coverage out of them.

Gundam F91

Comparison with Converge

F91 is one of my personal favorite MS in UC because it is a simple and elegant MS design that sports some serious firepower despite its small size. The Ensemble version beats its Converge counterpart by far margin since it has all of its standard armament complete with the VSBR Gimmick.

RGM-109 Heavygun

RGM-109 Heavygun Full Equipment type

Heavygun is the Federation grunt MS in F91 serving as replacements for Jegan and it jobs really bad in the series as they are getting curbstomped by Crossbone Vanguard. In SRW Alpha 2 their statlines are very pathetic and serve as support fire unit only. However the Full Equipment version looks very badass as it carries tons of Dakka with it which i don't think this variant in Alpha 2.

RX-124 TR-6 Hyzenthlay II

FF-X29A G-Parts [Hrududu II]

RX-124 TR-6 Hyzenthlay II Rah

Ensemble lineup is a boon for AOZ fans as the cool designs from the series are represented quite often ranging from regular variant to P-Bandai that cost tens of thousand Yens. In Ensemble 08 Hzanthley II represent the AOZ series and able to combine with Hrududu II to form Hzanthley II Rah. This mobile suit actually appeared in SD Gundam G Generation Overworld and i happen to use the unit as well which has decent stats. Hzanthley II Rah easily the most imposing MS from the 8th edition and i think it will fetch quite high price in the future.

Out of three Ensemble series that i had, 08 is easily my favorite as all of the variants are solid with generous amount of accessories for each of them. I will try to do the coverage for 07 and 04 eventually which hopefully doesn't get delayed that long. While my personal favorite is still F91, Hyztenthlay II definitely takes the spotlight of this edition. I will look forward what ensemble has in store for the 10th Edition which hopefully doesn't contain dud MS.
