Ever since the premiere in Japan early this year, Gundam Seed Freedom screening is no doubt one of the most anticipated moments by Gundam Seed fans for this year. After SEED franchise being dormant for almost two decades due to some trainwreck from unnecessary drama, Gundam Seed Freedom definitely doesn't disappoint for the fans and personally I got the opportunity to attend the premiere screening on my local movie theater last week. Overall Gundam Seed Freedom Movie is a whole level of a treat for SEED Fans and really live up to the expectation for the long awaited and much needed fanservice for the fans!
The main premise of Gundam Seed Freedom is pretty much setting up the conclusion for the relationship between Kira and Lacus as the main antagonist casts do their best to try NTR Kira and steal Lacus away for their Coordinator BS plan whatsoever while the rest of the protagonist cast do their best to support Kira with their allotted screentime.
Gundam Seed Freedom is still exactly what you expect from a Gundam Seed series which have heavy emphasis on Style over substance where the main heroes beat any midcard opponents with style while the casualty falls on the supporting casts. As SEED fans you will be given a whole lot of pleasant treats from the movie as every single surviving casts in Gundam SEED Destiny do make their appearance even if it is a minor one like Waltfeld.
The MVP of Gundam Seed Freedom is easily Shinn Asuka and that comes from Athrun fanboy! As he has the best battle scenes compared to Kira and Athrun and his character development in the movie really redeem the unfair treatment that he got in Seed Destiny due to stupid drama. I am never a fan of Kira but do grateful that the drama stemmed from his relationship between Lacus do give opportunity for Athrun to shine along with other main casts worth their salt. In Gundam Seed Freedom, Athrun is the ever reliable guy when it come to providing clutch-save on critical moments and his beatdown on Kira to get out of his wussy mode is easily my favorite moment in the movie despite Shinn end up being the collateral damage in the process.
If you are never got into Gundam SEED series, Gundam Seed Freedom probably wont have much to offer therefore it is recommended to marathon Gundam SEED and Destiny beforehand for newcomers which are relatively easy to do given they are given some HD Makeover and I personally will do it myself at some point. Considering the screening for the Gundam Seed Freedom that I joined was the premiere one, I got some exclusive goodies which are not exactly up to the value in my opinion. But at very least I am glad I still get Athrun Acryllic Stand which has been always my main target. In any case Gundam SEED Freedom is very successful in reigniting the love of the fans toward SEED series and I wouldn't mind to support next SEED series especially if they give the main stage to Athrun.
