Mobile Suit Gundam UC Engage

Some new Gundam Gacha game that just made it to Global server by Bandai which caught my attention. Apparently this one called Gundam UC Engage was released mid October last month when I was on my Japan trip and the server have been running around 3 weeks. Personally I never played any Gundam game on mobile before and looking for successor candidate for Final Gear, I decided to give Gundam UC Engage a try on my Android Tablet.

After giving Gundam UC Engage a run for 3 Days my overall impression of this game is mediocre one. Just like G-Generation Genesis, UC Engage is an Gundam RPG game featuring whole span of Universal Century era as the rosters. For a Mobile game, Gundam UC Engage got a high quality graphic roughly equivalent to PS3 level but the Gameplay doesn't appear to be anything special so far.

From my impression, Gundam UC Engage gameplay is a Braindead Pokemon-style RPG which players pretty much grind for the meta-unit to make it into the top pitting their team of 6 Mobile Suits against whatever that the game have in store. One of the main selling points from Universal Century series are the Grunt Units and this game does not put this aspect into good use. The Mobile Suits units in this game are pretty much watered down version on what you have from Gundam games on Console which are just bunch of statblocks with JPGs attached on it. To be honest I would love to have a Gundam Army building that reward players that put well thought out designs on the unit Synergy but instead what we have currently is grinding for the Biggest hitting stick on simple Rock-Paper-Scissor game.

Regardless of the glaring flaw that this game have, Gundam UC Engage offer a robust platform for Gundam series on Mobile platform which is kinda a big deal for this sort and this is the reason why I am willing to gave this game a chance. Bandai never particularly have a good track record for Gundam Games on mobile considering most of these type of games never survive quite long with the Iron Blood Orphan Games and Gundam Breaker being the recent casualties. However Gundam UC Engage had survived for around 2 years in Japan before making it to Global and from what I see, it has no signs of slowing down anytime soon which means that the game got sufficient support by Japanese players.

Personally I could see Gundam UC Engage can survive quite sometime if Bandai's main Objective with the Global Server is not profitability because this game would help to improve Gundam Brand awareness for overseas consumers which they will need just like their Japan's Gundam Base need Gaijins also. The above picture is the SSR Units and Pilot that I have from my first few days which will take sometime to expand since I am going to save for select few Banners. Lastly I will be making a separate posts for Gundam UC Engage possible future contents because there seems no content creators that appear willing to commit for Quality content for UC Engage and focus on making quick bucks instead. Lastly if you are interested to give UC Engage a try, it is pretty good to give it a try now since the game are still generous on handouts.
