MS Saga Revisited

Right after completing my 4th run of SRW Alpha 3, I returned to another PS2 classic: MS Saga! Known in Japan as Gundam Odyssey, it remains one of the most unique Gundam games from the PS2’s golden era. Fortunately, I still have my save file from 14 years ago, letting me pick up exactly where I left off.

After taking some time to reacquaint myself with the game following a decade-long gap, I’ve now logged around 10 hours of playtime. As expected, the latter half of MS Saga is brutal, truly an old-school JRPG wrapped in Gundam packaging. Within those 10 hours, I’ve only cleared two main dungeons, compared to the extensive mileage I covered in my first 22 hours during the first half of the game.

Still, I’m committed to completing at least the main story, though I’m still contemplating whether to tackle the postgame content—aware that the difficulty ramps up significantly. Even so, MS Saga gets a lot of its formula right, and I can’t help but think the Gundam series could have explored this style even further. Even so, I’m looking forward to seeing my journey through MS Saga to its conclusion.
