Legend of Heroes Gagharv Trilogy
was one of my favorite JRPG series when I still had my PSP. Consisting of Tears
of Vermilion, Prophecy of Moonlight Witch and Song of the Ocean, this
particular Falcom JRPG series had very good worldbuilding story even if the
pace started out as rather slow and Bandai Namco Localization butchered plenty
of things in the game instead of elevating it. Then almost 20 years since the western
release of PSP Ghargharv Trilogy, out of strange turn of event the series made a
comeback somehow as Mobile Gacha Game! By the way if anyone interested with the
original PSP Gargharv Trilogy, I had made articles for Prophecy of Moonlight Witch
and Song of the Ocean which you can check it out. These two are over 13 years old but still quite solid ones for the older articles in this blog.
Of all things, Legend of Heroes Gargharv Trilogy made a return after so long as a Korean Gacha Game and it is an officially licensed one. Not exactly a bad thing, but as somebody who finished the original PSP trilogy, I just find the several changes for the series to make a comeback are rather weird such as the Korean Dub. Developed by a studio called FowGames and under the supervision of Neowiz, this version of Gargharv Trilogy core features had many similarities that you would expect from a Korean Fantasy Gacha Games like Unknown Knights or Guardian Tales. The gameplay fight mechanics however feels like something you would expect from the original Gargharv Trilogy If it was not butchered by Bamco's localization.
I still wonder how Falcom agreed with this sort of deal in the first place, but Fowgames take on Gargharv Trilogy is still a proper adaptation with decent potential despite its quirks and rough landing. Probably this game could successfully accomplish what Song of the Ocean tried back in its time should it survive long enough. In fact Fowgames version of Gargharv Trilogy offer an opportunity for younger JRPG Fans who may started from YS Nostrum or Trails of Cold Steel to get into and appreciate this classic Falcom series. JRPG fans now could enjoy the whole experience of the Gargharv Trilogy without having to buy 3 separate Physical games. As Fowgames did quite faithful adaptation for the storyline which was the strongest selling point of this series just like many Falcom titles.
So far Fowgames Gargharv Trilogy have finished Tears of Vermilion storyline and working on the Song of Ocean since they appear to take on Chronological timeline. Hopefully this game could survive until Prophecy of Moonlight Witch story properly concluded.
These are some of my recent SSR acquisitions in the game which include Avin’s sister, Eimelle who finally able to fight alongside with her beloved brother, Avin. The PSP version of Gargharv Trilogy had plenty of party members joining the protagonist but they have very limited screentime and this is one of the few things that the Mobile version addressed properly. So far the Gacha rosters are mainly from Tears of Vermilion with Prophecy of moonlight witch have barely any but will follow up. I am sure this Gagharv Trilogy potentially could be a robust platform for Falcom crossovers if properly managed. Because obviously I am still hoping for possible collab with Ys Series as Gargharv world setting is perfect one for Adol Christin to hop in.
