Desktop Army Fate Grand Order Vol 3 Review

Time for the little fellows this time!

Last year i was in the fanatic phase for Fate Grand Order and gathers all sorts of collectibles that piqued my interest. One of them was Megahouse Desktop Army and the 3rd Volume was my first pick as it has very good selection of roster, which i happen to have all of the featured servant in the game. Before i had my hands on the lineup, I always wonder why the Desktop Army lineup never pick any hype among the fanbase and i understood the cause once i had them into my hands.

FGO Desktop Army Vol 3 features Musashi, Okita and Tamamo as the roster. These 3 Servants are Top Tier Waifus in the game which makes up a set of SSR Japanese Beauty servants with complete representation of Buster, Arts and Quick meta.

The Desktop Army version of Miyamoto Musashi comes in her second Ascension version. I suppose the Nendoroid and Figma also use this version because it easier to sculpt than her 3rd Ascension form which sports long sleeves on the arm part. For the Desktop Army, you got 2 choice Maple leaf decals to decorate Musashi's red dress part.

Comparison with Figma

For the Self-Proclaimed lovely Fox Miko, Tamamo comes in her 2nd Ascension form sporting two tails compared to her 1st Ascension form. Her Mirror functions like a shield in this version as it lacks stand alone base to support some floating action like in the game. Too bad this version of Tamamo doesn't come with her Mikon hand parts like her illustration

Last of the three from FGO Desktop Army Vol 3 is the Tuberculosis Shinsengumi waifu, Okita Souji! Unfortunately she is the worst of the lot for this edition. Desktop Army limited articulation doesn't allow her to pull her fluid pose just like in the game and her Haori is a pain to assemble. I will look forward to her Figma since this one is a miss.

I suppose the biggest reason i bought this particular edition Desktop Army because all these 3 Servants visited my Chaldea. With the abysmal SSR rate from FGO, sometimes the joy having these highly sought after waifus sometimes makes you go spending spree on the merchandise.

Unfortunately Desktop Army is not really the best choice for FGO collectible. For a 1700 Yen Candy Toy Price tag, the quality is rather lackluster. The sculpt is decent but everything else puts itself to shame even compared to Bandai 500 Yen Gashapon. I guess half of the Desktop army cost goes to Type Moon's licensing because the manufacturer think that they can get away with the franchise brand power. The only saving grace of Desktop Army for me is that it is able to stand upright with minimum support at very least compared to Nendoroid.

I guess as a part to promote the FGO Desktop Army lineup, Megahouse include a postcard featuring one of the roster in each box and i got Musashi for this one. FGO Desktop Army never really pick up any momentum because the quality of the product is not appealing enough for its price tag. If you are not dedicated fan of FGO series, Bandai's Petit Rise is better value for money which featured Okita and Musashi already and comes in bigger size. I also have the Vol 2 FGO Desktop Army which i am still looking for a good timing to make the review.

  1. These gals have been around before I quit the game. My collection is more towards male characters in the game. What a shame of me to leave the game.

    1. It was only around mid last year that i managed to collect all three of them. FGO is rather merciless for new account but if you need some kickstart I guess buying an account is another option.
