It took me longer than expected but finally i got opportunity to make a Review for Kotobukiya's Yang Wenli figure. When i finished Legend of Galactic Heroes few years ago, i promised to myself to get Yang Wenli's figure if it ever released, because it is the least thing i can do for this masterpiece of a series. To those who never watched LoGH , they might find this figure look rather unremarkable and wonder why such plain looking Guy got a figure. But being the pivotal character in LOGH, Yang Wenli deserve one even if it takes 30 Years, such a shame it is unlikely we will see a character of such Caliber in the future.
Yang Wenli is the Fleet Admiral of Free Planet Alliance 13th Fleet and in LOGH series he is most well known for being the only person who can rival Reinhard von Lohengramm, the most brilliant Military Commander from Galactic Empire.Yang starts his military career as an Officer graduate from military academy but rose to fame in El Facil after he carry out brilliant plan of evacuating Civilians as the Planet getting taken over by Galactic Empire. Then Yang saw another turning point of his career in the aftermath of Battle of Astarte as he saves FPA Fleets from total annilihation and given command of his own 13th Fleet. From there on Yang Wenli made a mark in history being the youngest Fleet Admiral in FPA who is undefeated and the only one whom Reinhard never completely overcome.
What makes Yang Wenli an exceptional character is the depth of his wisdom. Being a lover of history and pacifist in nature, Yang is very good at winning battles which one of his officer snide him as an irony. Another of Yang's greatest quality is that he stands true for his democratic ideals even having odds stacking against him which mostly come from his own corrupted government. Most people compared Yang to Historical figure Yi Sun Shin, but i think he is more similar to Li Mu, one of the celebrated general in Chinese Warring states as he got more similar circumstances with Yang compared to Yi.
There is not much to say about the figure other than being a straight faithful adaptation which captures Yang's character perfectly. Being one of the most successful Military Commander in Free Planet Alliance, Yang's laid back and gentle nature surely the opposite of what people expects from him. In short there is no reason not to get this figure if you are LOGH considering this is one of the best merchandise that the series had. I think i might consider to get Reinhard's figure if my company still has one.
As for Die Neue These, i had doubts if Studio IG can continue the series properly as the TV series left at not so favorable position for a cliffhanger, but i will see it to the end at very least. As for the Novel, i think i should complete my reading from where i left off at least.
Wow. I didn't know they made figures from LOGH, I have only seen minatures of their's starships
ReplyDeleteFor a long time we only have Alba Creates ship as the only tangible collectible for the Series. These Kotobukiya lineup figure was announced in short succession around Q3 last year so it is easily missable.
DeleteFor Die Neue These GSC happen to make the Nendoroids for both main characters which we will probably see getting released early next year.

For Die Neue These, i doubt it will surpass the OVA because straight adaptation of the Novel doesn't mean it will be better. But to be fair DNT doesn't have much resource compared to OVA both in Manpower and Funding, and certainly they will not surpass the musical score of LOGH OVA.
