Geppy-X HD Remaster

A rather surprising piece of news for mecha gaming fans but a welcome one nonetheless. A 70s mecha-themed PSX game, Geppy X, is getting a remastered version. Scheduled for a global release in July 2026, it will be available on all modern consoles, a rare and unusual treatment for a classic, non-mainstream PSX title.

Back when it first came out, Geppy X caught my attention as I explored the PSX’s mecha game library as much as I could. Considering I wasn’t really into the Super Robot genre back then, this one had mostly eluded me, but now it seems I have a good reason to revisit it.

In terms of gameplay, Geppy X appears to be your typical horizontal shmup, with a Getter Robo-style mecha as the playable character. What sets it apart, though, is the surprisingly high number of animated cutscenes unusual for a shmup, yet a clear sign of the developers’ passion for the project.

Nonetheless, I’m hoping for the best with the Geppy X remaster. Revivals like this are very rare in the mecha genre, and it’s exciting to see a classic like this getting a modern second life.

Figmaplus Playstation

A pleasant surprise and a welcome one! Figma recently introduced a new accessories lineup called Figmaplus, and the latest addition is a PlayStation-themed series. The Figmaplus PlayStation set features the complete lineup of PlayStation consoles, including the PSP and Vita. Scheduled for release in September 2026, Figmaplus PlayStation will retail for ¥5,500.

Back in the day, there were Bandai Gashapon PlayStation figures, priced at ¥300 each. Figmaplus justifies its higher price tag with a more completionist and premium approach. In addition to the consoles, the set includes game cartridge accessories for each system and features slightly more elaborate gimmicks, making it feel more like a collector’s item than a simple toy.

Not only are these accessories perfect for 1/12 action figures, but they also carry strong nostalgic value. I’m also confident this product will open the door to customization opportunities for skilled collectors especially since the cartridges can be modified or recreated to relive personal gaming memories.

If Nintendo is not stingy with their IP, a Figmaplus rendition of their consoles could easily follow.

Crypt Killer (Henry Explorers)

Konami had a solid presence in the arcade scene, though they were never as strongly associated with shooter games as companies like Sega or Namco. Still, in the mid-90s they released a surprisingly memorable horror light-gun game: Crypt Killer (known as Henry Explorers in Japan). The arcade cabinet supported up to three players, casting them as shotgun-wielding treasure hunters exploring ruins and remote locations around the world, all infested with grotesque monsters.

By today’s standards, the graphics haven’t aged gracefully, but Crypt Killer still stands out as one of the better non-Sega horror shooters when it comes to atmosphere and vibe. The game throws a full buffet of monsters at you: mermen, gargoyles, living skeletons, mummies, and more along with six bosses to battle. Its atmosphere is surprisingly effective: you really feel like a fragile human wandering into dangerous, monster-filled places where one wrong move could mean a gruesome end.

Crypt Killer also offers solid replay value. The branching paths and multiple endings—including joke endings and bad endings, giving players plenty of reasons to revisit its strange little world.

I played Crypt Killer both in arcades and later on the PlayStation. With arcades now practically extinct, the PSX version remains the most accessible way to experience the game today, even if it lacks some of the full features of the original cabinet. I still remember playing it with my cousins during my teenage years.

Alundra

One of the 2D Adventure Gem on PSX that I came across when I still have my PSP. 2D games often got overlooked on PSX due the console riding on high wave of 3D Hype but Alundra proved that PSX is also reigning supreme on 2D games especially with JRPG element.

If Legend of Zelda got darker cousin, you got yourself Alundra! In Alundra you play as some sort of Elven mystic warrior who possess mysterious power of entering people's dreamworld. In this game, the protagonist ended up in a village that is plagued with mysterious phenomenon with sinister nature and it is up to the player to free the vilage from the nightmare caused by ancient evil.

For a game created in mid 90s era, Alundra surprisingly has very polished experience and the difficulty are no joke either. It is probably one of the best 2D top down action game out there which have perfect balance of Action and Puzzle. To this day I really got puzzled that the sequel of Alundra looks completely nothing with the first game which implied some issues with the Publisher who really lacked the proper vision despite Alundra had that promise of great adventure. If this game ever got remaster somehow, I might be even interested to revisit the game one day.

Punky Skunk

Revisiting my Childhood once again! Animal platforming are still aplenty in PSX era and very popular. Instead 2Ds like in the 16-bit era, most of these animal platforming games had transitioned to 3D style like Crash Bandicoot or Spyro. Among many of these 3D games there were still some 2D games like Punky Skunk which happened to be one of the earliest Video Game that I played during my childhood and it can be said to be the gateway for me into the Video Game world. Overall Punky Skunk is a solid Animal platformer game but released in 1998 which was way too late for a 2D game to leave a mark as the 3D gaming are dominating on the craze. However given the significant contribution that Punky Skunk gave to my Childhood memories, I feel that I have to return the favor with an article at very least.

Chippoke Ralph no Daibouken - Great Adventure of Little Ralph

Settling my old debt once again with a PSX game that I played as a kid. There was this PSX Platformer that features the main protagonist got cursed by the enemy into a Child who sets for a journey of Hack and Slash adventure. When I had my Vita, I just got to know that particular game name was Chippoke no Ralph which was a Japan exclusive PSX game released back in 1999. Though good thing that I didn't purchase it on PSN back then. Recently I just got time to give my full attention for this game and I was in for a rude awakening because Chippoke no Ralph is definitely one of the more brutal Platformer on modern consoles. To save everyone's misery of playing this Retro Difficulty game, I will impart everything on my journey in This article.

Kaze no Klonoa Nendoroid 1911 Klonoa

In anticipation for the HD Remake of Klonoa 1+2, GSC Released a Nendoroid for Klonoa one of the last animal platformer protagonist from late 5th Gen era. Nendoroid Klonoa will be scheduled for June 2023 release with 8000 Yen price tag. The depreciating Yen value must be that bad for a Nendoroid that could have been released for 6000 Yen.

Rendered in his Klonoa 1 version, Nendoroid Klonoa comes with the ring weapon and his buddy Huepow. I think this one of the Nendoroid that can properly stand without any stand Support thus like Nendoroid Megaman series. I really look forward both to this Nendoroid and the Switch Remake port since Bamco appear to put some effort on the makeover.

Threads of Fate

One of those One-shots old school JRPG Title made by Squaresoft before their eventual merge with Enix and this one had a particular nostalgic feel. Threads of Fate or Dewprism is an Action-RPG game with Lighthearted story two heroes adventure, Rue and Mint in search of vague Powerful wish granting treasure called "Relic". I used to play this game ages ago but always quit early and only manage to settle the debt after getting a copy on my Vita.

In a hindsight, Threads of Fate is comparable to Megaman Legends and appears to be half-assed attempt by Squaresoft to make a fantasy version of the latter.   Threads of Fate shared plenty of game formula with MML with Ancient Civilization theme played a huge part in the storyline and the illusion of Epic Adventure that the game tried to evoke. The Nostalgic feeling toward Threads of Fate probably made me highly regard the game before i managed to play it once again and to be honest Threads of Fate is mediocre at best. The game is more like a Action Platformer with some RPG element instead of a genuine Action RPG and the mechanics is rather unpolished. The only redeeming value of Threads of Fate for me would be the distinct Concept Art and the game do have a couple of good Music Score.

So currently i have finished Rue's Storyline and will finish Mint's route as well to completely wrap up my trip with this game. While most of JRPG game like Threads of Fate failed to deliver, I am always have personal fondness with PSX era RPG Game where they tried to offer an experience of Epic adventure. Given how Megaman Legends 2 end up, i do see why Threads of Fate didn't get any continuation even if it had a shot in early 2000s but by this time the window of opportunity definitely has long gone.

Misadventures of Tron Bonne

My first entry to Megaman Legend series and arguably leaves me more lasting impression as i never get to finish the game until now. Tron Bonne was a fun game but unfortunately i raised my expectation too high due to Nostalgia factor. For a time the PSX copy was a highly sought after collector item but fortunately you get this game on PSN without paying hundred bucks.

Mobile Police Patlabor Game Edition PSX

Patlabor series is probably one the most well known work made by Yutaka Izubuchi and i certainly respect this series alot for having one of the most realistic approach for mecha genre. Little known outside Japan, the series actually had a decent game on PSX which was not too shabby at its time but doesn't age really well at the present with its graphic quality. In any case Patlabor Game Edition offers an interesting experience for a mecha game because it is made by people who understand the series really well.

Gundam Battle Assault 2

-Wealth and Glory to the Winner!

When i was a kid, i played this game alot with my friend and certainly it was one of my early gateway to the series. Gundam Battle Assault 2 is probably the best Gundam game that was ever released in the west for PSX and still one of the top Gundam Games that got western release. At its release time Gundam Battle Assault 2 surprises lots of people with its solid gameplay, making it a well-remembered classic. While i am not good with fighting game, i really had fun with GBA2 and every now and then still play this awesome gem.

Speed Power Gunbike

One of PSX mecha game that i recently added to my Japanese Vita library and it was such an unpolished gem. Gunbike was the first game released by Inti Creates which developed games like Megaman Zero and the recent Azure Striker Gunvolt. It was a racing mixed with action game but what makes it special is that it features Transformable Motorbike Power Armor which resemble something from Shinji Aramaki's Megazone and Mospeada's design. As a mecha fan i find the concept that Gunbike offers are really interesting concept despite the gameplay mechanics are unpolished. To this day i still wonder why there are no developers interested to develop something out of this much unexplored subgenre of mecha game

Gear Fighter Dendoh PSX Game

Dendoh is one of the series that i always really want to watch since it got some cool gimmicks and on top of that this was a mecha show directed by Fukuda before SEED debacle. Before there was SRW MX, there was this PSX Game for Gear Fighter Dendoh. It was really fun beat'em up game and i used to play this a lot when i was a 6th Grader. I think for Game that was intended for Cross-Promotion, it was rather well made if short and give really nice coverage on Dendoh before SRW R and MX included the series in their roster.

The Great Battle VI

In the early days of Banpresto before they are really famous for their SRW series, they made crossover series which involve Gundam, Kamen Rider and Ultraman in Super-Deformed game series called "The Great Battle" which most of them seen released on Super Nintendo platform. When i was a kid i used to play the 6th installment of the game on Playstation alot and it was my gateway game to Gundam series. I am quite surprised how childhood can make something biased so much since i used to think this game was the best one ever. Nevertheless Great Battle VI is still kinda decent Sidescroller.

Wild Arms

Played the Alter Code F before but i actually finish the game with the Original Version which i downloaded on my Vita for free during promotion few months ago. Overall the game is fun despite the graphic feels really dated after i played ACF but the music is still one of the best in my JRPG journey. The story is your typical JRPG types along with the cliches but the main protagonist, Rudy is really good for a silent protagonist. So far i got couple things left to do in this game from clearing the Ancient arena as well as fighting Ragu O Ragla in the abyss. After this will be likely to get Wild Arms 2 on my Vita so i could finish more of these once great but forgotten RPG series. I still wonder if there will be any 6th Wild Arms considering Media Vision has been quiet lately.

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile

One of the PS1 classics that i played on Vita recently which i got quite a number now. Back then when i was a kid i remembered i played this game and somehow the gaming experience remains vivid and i decided to get back to this game. I didn't managed to finish this game when i was a kid and i feel obligated to finish one of the game in my past as i have a chance. Klonoa is one of those animal themed sidescrolling game which was quite a boom back in early 90s though this series itself is rather late joining the party. I remembered the graphic of the game was quite something else back then and every elements of the game just blends really well. While the game is targeted for younger audience, the game is quite challenging actually which i sometimes doubt if a kid able to finish this game. The game spans for 12 stages with one secret stage(pretty hard!) and roughly about 6 bosses. For a sidescrolling game the level design is challenging and unique at the same time which makes this game one of the renowned title of its genre out there. If you feel nostalgic with your PS1 and want to get a good sidescrolling game, Klonoa would be a perfect choice for you.

Megaman Legends 2 finished!

After over 10 years this game is released, i managed to complete this game at last even if it is abit too late. I really had high expectation with this game since i never been able to finish the game back in the past. Unfortunately my expectation of this game is betrayed and i find Megaman Legends 2 is rather lackluster.

In this game i managed to clock 12 hours for my first playthrough which could be even shorter if i am not going back and forth looking for stuffs. The first reason why i am disappointed with this game is that the game rather lacks of content and gives false sense of big overworld, while the world map seems big there are only handful places can be visited. Apart from the 4 main dungeons, the rest of dungeons are pretty small and boring. Secondly i find the game is counter intuitive because you are forced to search every corner of cities in order to find materials to make sub-weapon which i don't mind if it is located in dungeon. Long story short, the game basically force you to waste couple of hours to look for those items if you are not using faqs. lastly the weakness of this game is the story and character, while i didn't expect much from megaman series in this department, i think legends actually managed to be the worst among other Megaman titles mainly because some characters plainly lacks of common sense or it is due to degradation by the dubbing. Nevertheless, Megaman Legends 2 still did well in terms of gameplay just like most other Megaman series did but i still find mechanical designs of Legends are rather silly.

Despite i heavily criticise Megaman Legends, i am still a fan of megaman series at heart because i spent my teen with them, Regarding Megaman Legends 3 i am taking neutral stance with the cancellation of the title because i think Capcom had a valid reason even if it is not ethical one. I think it is better that the game cancelled halfway rather than it bombed really hard when it is released and disappoint the fans like a certain conclusion(cliffhangers) of other megaman series. However i believe that the reasons why Capcom decided to cancel Megaman Legends 3 are significantly affected by Corporate politics(Sony? Nintendo?) rather than simply profit(which is still major one) but Capcom still pulled the decision really slow (probably intentional). The only regret that i have with MML3 cancellation is the chance to see the game to be improved but in the end 3DS still got Monster Hunter anyway in exchange of this title.

Real Robots Final Attack

Recently i am finding searching for some PSX games to be played on my psp and i stumble upon this game. Real Robot Final Attack is an action game which is similar to Sega's Virtual-On in terms of gameplay and just like its name implied, the rosters consist of Real Robots(except Shining Gundam and Dunbine i guess). The game also featured SRX team of SRW as secret units which is the main reason why i have a try on this game. In terms of quality, Real Robot Final Attack is quite lackluster especially in graphic department which is even worse compared to Saturn's Virtual-On and obviously Oratorio Tangram wins undisputed. Probably this game is the closest thing to knock-offs ever made by Banpresto  though i think it would be lovely to see a Virtual-On game with SRW OG cast. If you looking for some psx mecha games i think you might consider to look into this game as it is actually fun for a while except the final boss who spams even worse than Jaguarandi.
