Saint Seiya

Took me about 15 years after Saint Seiya: Lost Canvas before finally diving into the original classic, but I’m proud to announce that I’ve completed my run of the Saint Seiya manga! One of the great late-80s manga classics by Kurumada-sensei, it shaped the Japanese shonen industry with its iconic armor-clad Zodiac knights, the Saints.

Being a millennial, my exposure to Saint Seiya was mostly through the anime with fragmented memories of arcs and battles. Finishing the manga finally gave me the complete picture. The storyline is actually quite simple, structured around four major arcs. My earliest memories are tied to the Sanctuary arc, and I never expected the earlier arcs to last as long as they did.

By today’s standards, Saint Seiya may not have aged perfectly. But for its time, it was innovative, with mystical armor and special tropes that inspired later works like Shurato and Yoroiden.

Beyond its novel concepts, Saint Seiya stood out for delivering a laser-focused shonen experience. It follows the adventures of the five Bronze Saints as they fight to save the world and protect their patron Goddess, Athena. This clear, action-driven structure made it a household name in Japan. That said, in the original series, other characters like the Gold Saints and Hades Specters often ended up as fodder for the Bronze Saints’ battles. At least later spin-offs, like Lost Canvas, attempted to address this flaw.

For me, the biggest issue was the breakneck pacing in the final arc. The climactic showdown against Thanatos, Hypnos, and Hades is squeezed into less than two volumes, giving the Bronze Saints’ God Cloth forms very little screen time.

Despite these flaws, I still admire Saint Seiya for its innovation and impact on shonen manga. Its anime adaptations have also played a huge role in popularizing the series, and I might explore that massive library someday.

Saint Seiya Saint Cloth Myth SCM EX Sagittarius Aiolos Review

This week’s Thursday Review coincides with Christmas 2025, so it feels like the perfect time to feature something special: reviewing my copy of SCM EX Sagittarius Aiolos. I’m not exactly a diehard Saint Seiya fan, but owning the figure of my zodiac constellation feels satisfying and I’m glad that constellation happens to be Sagittarius.

Saint Seiya SCM EX Pegasus Seiya Gold ver Tamashi Nation Exclusive

Never thought time goes so fast and it is December 2025 again and time for a little bit more special for the review series! Growing up exposed to Saint Seiya , I had some familiarity with this classic shonen series. Naturally, I did spare some expense to obtain a collectible from Saint Seiya but only reserved getting Sagittarius Aiolos related SCM, being a Sagittarian myself. Thus, I never really intended to collect any other Saint Cloth Myth including the protagonist Bronze saints. However, from strange turn of event, I did obtain SCM Pegasus Seiya and a limited edition at that!

In essence this SCM is gold recolor version of SCM V3 Pegasus Seiya. I did obtain this SCM because the price is actually cheaper than its regular counterpart and curious if it could make use SCM part from SCM EX Sagittarius Aiolos to make Sagittarius Seiya.

Unfortunately turns out the body frame type of Aiolos and Seiya highly differs thus such avenue is impossible. I also notice that Bronze saint diecast armor parts are much simpler than Gold saints and prior to obtaining V3 Seiya, I never know he had optional wing parts as well even not as big as Sagittarius.

Considering the photo shots were meant for quick review, there is no elaborate action pose for my copy of SCM Pegasus Seiya. Perhaps in the event it didn’t get sold in near future maybe Seiya will get more action poses. In any case despite Blokees offer far cheaper alternatives, SCM Seiya still worth looking at if you are diehard fan of Saint Seiya.

Saint Seiya Figuarts Zero Touche Metallique Sagittarius Seiya

 
 I don't post much Saint Seiya too much in this blog since Realm of Darkness focus more on Mecha and High Fantasy stuff instead of mainstream Shonen. But from time to time if there are noteworthy stuff I will still share one. Bandai's Saint Cloth Myth might not be produced so much lately which cause the aftermarket price remains consistently high. But In a rare occassion, Saint Seiya got a Figuarts Zero featuring Seiya in Sagittarius Gold Cloth! Scheduled for December 2024 release, FZ0 Seiya will be sold for 20000 Yen Price tag.

Bandai rarely make Scale Figure for Saint Seiya series but perhaps for some reason they want to offer a substitute for Saint Seiya Fanbase to consider apart from existing products such as Tsume Studio. Since I am not exactly very well versed in Saint Seiya series, all I can say is that FZ0 Sagittarius Seiya offers a Dynamic Pose version of the main character in his Shiny Gold Saint Cloth which even the original SCM unable to achieve, certainly a good item for collectors who just want a very good showpiece in their collections. Recently Blokees do release several Saint Seiya products but so far it would not be a serious competition with Bandai until they are making a product with Diecast parts.

March 2024 Loot

 Another massive looking hauls this time despite it does not necessarily surpass the Early year one in terms of Value and deceptively. Just like my hauls from over past one year my loots this time are still predominantly Chinese made stuff with a handful of heavy duty Japanese series. Obviously the main star of this batch is no doubt the Metamorforce Fire Dagwon which is one of my personal favorite Yuusha but slightly disappointed that It will be rather small compared to THE GATTAI version despite having almost double price point. The next focal point from this haul would be bunch of Sluban Robot Lego Kit which are mostly from Super Mecha Champion series which I got into recently and the end products are very impressive for its price point. 

Then by this point Joytoy 40k will be almost appear in my monthly haul of 40k Hauls and this time got some more named characters joining the rank. It doesn't took long for Rogal Dorn to join Lion and probably around next month his Imperial Fists children will follow up. I also got some Genshin collectibles despite not amused with their treatments for player and I might try get Keqing Acrylic stand in near future just to complete the Sword Maiden trio set. Lastly I never consider myself a Saint Seiya fan but got myself a limited edition of Pegasus Seiya from the Tamashii Ultraman Event early this month. While I am very grateful with my current financial situation who could afford my hobby with my disposable income, lacking free time as a working adult is a pain at times indeed.

March 2021 Loot

 I think my spendings for Toys over past three months are quite overkill since i got myself a solid range of hauls in this time range. This months loot represents my collection target quite well which are balance of Mecha and FGO related merchandise with few outliers lies in between. The best catch of this month's loot is no doubt the SCM Sagittarius Aiolos which i had been looking for a playable substitute for the God Cloth version. I think i could cover reviews for the loots in this batch quite quick since i am planning a desert theme for future review which most would fit quite well. In any i really need to work on the Gundam Ensemble since the backlog has piled up to 4 volumes already.
 

SCM Soul of Gold Sagittarius Aiolos Review

 Since i am a Sagittarius i think this is the right opportunity to make a review for my Sagittarius God Cloth. This My First Saint Cloth Myth and likely the last one too since i don't really follow Saint Seiya series. Got this one for 10000 Yen from my company after some cashback campaign which is very good deal for these kind of products. Arguably this a Review of Saint Seiya Myth Cloth product from Non Saint Seiya Follower.

August 2017 Loot

 Forgot to show off this one due to workload but here is my acquisition from last month. Working in Toy Company has its perks, being able to get the first dib on new stuffs or getting rare toys at discount rate. Though i end up having my spending on toys doubled or tripled before i work in my current company. Most of the stuffs in the picture i bought it from my company save for SRC Mightgaine. I ended up buying alot last month because Tokopedia had insane 20% Cashback Promotion which allow me to get Sagittarius SOG for roughly 10000 Yen only. It was pricey but at long last, i have my own Saint Cloth and the only one i need! But in the end i think the best deal i got from last month is Yamato 2199 Figurine which i got for 270k Rp or roughly 2000ish Yen which is a steal for this kind of figure. Probably in few weeks i will be putting up some Review for some of my hauls here.

Saint Seiya Lost Canvas end

The prequel of the Saint Seiya came to an end finally. I find the ending is rather rushed especially the Hades Battle which probably most Saint Seiya fans seem to agree. Actually this is the first series that become the gateway to the series since i never able to watch most of Saint Seiya Tv series. I would say the manga has been a fun read overall and some of the saints are really awesome. What makes Lost Canvas special in particular is the drawing where the characters are properly depicted as Bishounens. My favorite saint in Lost canvas is Sagittarius Sisyphus who had shown his loyalty to Athena once again despite dying near the end of the series which most of the Gold Saints died already by this time. I heard that the mangaka is planning to draw another Saint Seiya manga which follow after lost canvas.

Saint Seiya Saint Cloth Myth SCM Hades

The King of Underworld finally got his own figure in Surplice at last! i know Hades had his previous incarnation before with Hades Shun Version which i knew from Beamknight87's blog. I am not that well versed in Seint Seiya but i am fond of the series when i read Lost Canvas. For Now i don't think i will get this figure since probably the price is the main issue and i am not Saint Seiya collector to begin with. The most attracting part of the figure probably is the Sword which i somehow i find to look pretty cool (much Cooler than Odin Seiya's imo).
