Transformers x Macross 7 Takara Tomy Basara Prime

 Not stopping after Diaclone x Zoids collab, Takara make another kickass Transformers crossover product and it is collaboration product with Macross 7! Out of this collaboration we got ourselves Optimus Prime hybrid with VF-19 Kai Fire Bomber dubbed Basara Prime. Scheduled for March 2026 release, Takara's Basara Prime will be sold for 20000 Yen.

 

 Compared to Zoids&Diaclone crossover, Macross 7 seems to be rather weird choice for Transformers collab material but it surprisingly works out quite well. At first Macross appears to be rather arbitrary crossover choice for Transformers but if you trace back to G1 era, it does make some sense given G1 Jetfire is pretty much VF-1. Just like many premium Macross collectibles, Takara Tomy's Basara Prime has complete transformation gimmick of Variable Fighters. For instance the Gerwalk transformation can pass of as regular VF-19  and only in Battroid that the distinct feature become apparent. On top of perfect application of Variable Fighter, Basara Prime comes with a convoy that can transform into concert stage, truly giving Basara Prime a special touch. Seriously this sort of special treatment really imply that Basara Prime is more than just a simple cashgrab attempt from Takara Tomy because it is truly a complete harmony of Transformers and Macross, bring the best traits of both worlds and elevate it even further. Perhaps Bandai could learn a thing or two from the unique quality that Takara Tomy possess that enable them creating these sort of things.
