Persona 3 D-Arts Thanatos Review
The God of Death make his appearance.
Wow so it took me 4 years to get D-Arts Thanatos reviewed from my purchase during my time in China. Could have been two years earlier since i have gotten Figma Makoto Yuki by that time but at very least i could put some quality Review for this guy.
In Persona 3, Thanatos is the Ultimate Death Arcana Persona who will be available once you progressed enough through the game. Thanatos had a quite an impression on me as his debut is so memorable by literally ripping himself out of Orpheus and proceeds to beat a Shadow to a pulp. For a personification of Greek God of Death, Thanatos design for P3 is simply badass, A humanoid clad in leather suit with slight splash of bdsm while using bunch of Coffins as his shield and wielding sword gracefully but quickly fights like a berserker if unrestrained. In terms of performance, Thanatos is a solid all-rounder Final Tier Persona who can be Physical, Magic or Debuff Powerhouse depending on your preference. But his basic kit makes him Physical Attacker who can cast Instant Death spells or Megidos.
D-Arts Thanatos is more like a slightly posable statue rather than action figure due to its limited articulation which has to do with the sheer bulk of his back coffin parts. So it is more like a Figuarts Zero rather than SHF if Bandai released the toy was released in the present. The arm has limited posability and the waist is further more restrained. Nevertheless you can still pull some nice poses and the figure sculpt is superb for its price tag. I don't really think you can get a figure with a caliber D-Arts Thanatos for 4800 Yen nowadays and Max Factory or Bandai will only make another Thanatos Action Figure for 10000 Yen at very least.
For a 7 Year-old toy, D-Arts Thanatos complements Figma Makoto Yuki perfectly even if Bandai didn't make one back then. I think Bandai did have a plan for Makoto Yuki D-Arts considering even Elizabeth got one, but i guess the sales are not as good as Bandai expected so the plan got shelved. I was relieved that i decided to wait for Makoto Yuki Figma instead of splurging for his FZ0 which had costed double the price and not posable.
If you have Figma Makoto Yuki, I highly recommended getting D-Arts Thanatos if you can find one for reasonable price because it will enhance greatly the value of the only action figure of the Persona 3 Protagonist. The Review for D-Arts Elizabeth will follow soon considering it is necessary to wrap up my Persona 3 Collection review.
