Some Muvluv goodness after a long time!
I think it is around 7 years since the last time i am covering any review for Volks A3 and my recent revisit with Muvluv Alternative makes me motivated with the lineup again. I managed to snatch 3 Volks A3 last year for a good price from Mandarake and for the first one to be reviewed will be F-14 AN 3 Mindseeker. Despite its flaw, Volks A3 remain the go-to collectibles for Physical Representation of Muvluv TSFs due to its wide availability in Second-Hand market.
F-14 AN3 Mindseeker is the repurposed Variant of 2nd Generation TSF F-14D Tomcat used by UN for special missions. According to Muvluv Wiki, F-14 AN3 are designed to be used by Alternative III Russian Esper Pilots for Deep Infiltration operations in BETA Hive. For such purpose they are refitted with arrays of Radars and Sensors replacing the AIM-54 Phoenix Missiles to enhance the Esper Soldier spatial awareness inside the hive. So unlike its predecessor, overall F-14 AN3 is refitted as Recon type TSF and used by specific type of Surface Pilot.
I might be criticizing alot about Volks A3 back then because the articulation was far from desirable and unfortunately the flaws still stands with F-14 AN3 primarily the limited leg articulation. However over the time i do still appreciate the efforts by Volks because it is not easy to make action figures and they are doing thankless jobs for bringing out many physical representations of Muvluv TSFs only to be sold very cheap in the after market. But seriously it ain't easy for Toy companies that are not Bandai to make a functional action figure for a reasonable price.
The Photos for this review might seem inconsistent as i am still fiddling with best lighting setup in limited circumstances but i think the result should have been more consistent by next Volks A3 Review. While Volks A3 articulation is a far cry from Robot Damashii at very least Volks nailed down the sculpt quite well. I am still looking forward to the Muvluv TSF Action game since it would be a waste for this once great series to go down with whimper.
