The last of the 8 Yuusha series to be cleared in order to finish my Journey with Yuusha series and no doubt Mightgaine is the most Obari of all Yuusha series. I have watched the Mightgaine partially back then, but It took me 3 years after Dagwon just to finish watching this series since it was not fully subbed. Nevertheless i was determined to finish the business after SRW V which took me a while but no doubt i settled the Debt.
Yuusha Tokkyu Mightgaine or Brave Express is the 4th entry of 8 Yuusha series with heavy emphasis on Bullet Trains. In terms of Story Formula, Mightgaine was somewhere in between Da Garn and J Decker and no doubt Sunrise Studio have tried to step up its game with Mightgaine, While Sunrise's attempt to make Yuusha series something more than a Toy Commercial has taken some shape in Da Garn, it was not until Mightgaine that Sunrise fully committed to this goal of course with Takara's corporate meddling. I think of all Yuusha series, Obari is probably the most heavily involved with Mightgaine since you will see plenty of his iconic cut-ins in this one. Mightgaine is one of the most well rounded Yuusha series and it was probably the best one until Gaogaigar came in, which is a good reason why it was the second Yuusha series to make it in Main SRW title.
Brave Express Mightgaine storyline revolves around a youth named Maito Senpuuji fighting against evil criminals that threaten Nouvelle Tokyo City with Mightgaine, a super AI Robot instilled with a strong sense of Justice. If Batman is still a teenager and fight with robots instead, you got yourself Maito Senpuuji. Being the 4th Yuusha series, Mightgaine tried several new formulas which will be reused by its successors. While the previous 3 Yuushas Mechas are Alien Entities, Mightgaine is the first Human made Yuusha mecha and with strong backing of proper organization. The series also steps up the Romance part as the main protagonist got strong love interest, Sally Yoshinaga who is easily one of the strongest contender for Best Waifu title in Yuusha series.
Throughout the series, Mightgaine has been performing consistently quite well most of the time, though it falls in the same pitfall with its Predecessor Da Garn with the weak presence of main antagonist who only shows up in last few episodes. I think Mightgaine is definitely ended prematurely as the last 3 episodes had different kind of Vibes. Most of the time Mightgaine came with Optimistic tone but in those 3 Episodes goes for kill'em all route as the supporting Yuushas killed off one by one and Mightgaine end up being the sole survivor. But nevertheless Mightgaine still got Happy end after those apparent deaths.
I think probably Takara is not too pleased with Mightgaine since it was more suited for Teen audience instead of the kids which is why they probably cut off the funding which shorten the series. Black Noir the main antagonist in Mightgaine is likely the way Sunrise production team put a jab at Takara since its 4th wall remarks heavily imply Takara being the main villain.
Overall Mightgaine is easily one of the Top 3 Yuusha series, while Gaogaigar definitely surpass this series, Mightgaine is still more consistent as Gaogaigar had a rough start in the first half. Personally i find Mightgaine's mecha design to be rather weak but the story and the character makes up for it.
My Journey with Yuusha series started with Gaogaigar in 2010 and ended with Mightgaine 10 years after. It took a long time but it is another worthy Milestone achieved for my journey in Mecha series. Spanning over 8 series, Yuusha might be just a tool for Takara to sell their toys but the production staff at Sunrise at the time pour their passion in these works which is a great contribution for Mecha series overall. My trip in Yuusha series won't end just quite yet since i will revisit Da Garn and Gaogaigar first
