We are now truly Halfway through the Sakura Taisen 2 Mechatalk series! This time the Heroine who gets the turn is yet another one of more underrated heroine just like Kanna and actually one of the most invaluable member of Teikoku Kagekidan when it comes to support, Li Kohran! In Sakura Taisen 2, Kohran is actually one of the original Teikoku Kagekidan member that is given more opportunity to be fleshed out and unexpectedly have one of the better ending. So let's use the opportunity of this Mechatalk article to see what Sakura Taisen 2 had in store for this Genius scientist of Teikoku Kagekidan.
Li Kohran is one of the Original Teikoku Kagekidan member that has been the part of Elite Anti-Kouma task force since Sakura Taisen 1. She is self taught Inventor who is a genius with a streak of eccentricities and served as the Engineer of Teikoku Kagekiden, in charge of the Koubu Maintenance which she perform the task single-handedly most of the time with her Robot minions with very remarkable result, considering even a full team of Kanzaki Zaibatsu Engineers can't match up with her talent. Just like Kanna, Kohran is yet another one of the more easygoing member of Teikoku Kagekidan who tend to focus with her research most of the time. But despite being a genuine bonafide genius, Kohran tend to go overboard with her inventions which makes her end up often making some bizarre creations that backfire and blow up on her face or Ogami.
In Sakura Taisen 1, even if you went on her route, Kohran's backstory is never covered properly apart from that she is an eccentric self taught Inventor with Chinese descent origin. Thus Sakura Taisen 2 tried to make some amend and give some back story for Kohran in the main storyline and her route.
In Sakura Taisen 2, after Kohran make her return from assisting one of Teikoku Kagekidan sub department for R&D matter, as a proper member of Teikoku Kagekidan she partake some infiltration mission with Sakura on some high end private dining sites to gather some intel on the Black Demon society Liutenants. However due to some shenanigans and mishaps during the investigation , the parlour end up burning in fire. This paralyzed Kohran for some reason as she is overwhelmed by her past traumatic experience which forced Ogami to slap her in order to snap out of her panic attack. As Teikoku kagekidan managed to retreat safely, Kohran begin to tell her origin of her trauma as her family become the victim of violent upheaval in China when she was young and tells tcommander Yoneda played a significant role in helping Kohran to make it to Teikoku Kagekidan.
Should the Player choose Kohran as the main heroine, in her Miracle Bell chapter Ogami will mostly deal with Kohran facing her insecurities. Despite her eccentricities, Kohran is deep down very self conscious with her appearance compared to other Teikoku Kagekidan Maidens and wonder if she do deserve Ogami's affection. Being the smooth player as always, Ogami easily assures that Kohran is fine as she is and doesn't need to change her character to appease other people which obviously wins out Kohran's affection toward Ogami easily.
In Kohran's route, Ogami will travel with Kohran to Kobe which was her home before she joins Teikoku Kagekidan. In this opportunity, Ogami will meet up with Howard Percy, Kohran's foster father and Mentor who is likely the source behind Kohran end up having a streak of Mad Scientist in her veins. In this visiti, Kohran will retrieve a keepsake that belongs to her family and strengthen her resolve, willing to face any adversity as long as Ogami is by her side.
Sakura Taisen 1 might not have much things going for Kohran to make her a popular option among Sakura Taisen fans. Regardless Sakura Taisen 2 do go out her way to expand more on her character making her popularity somewhere in the middle of the road instead of being stuck at the bottom. Kohran's ending in ST2 is definitely a pleasant surprise for those who decide to ever consider her route and hopefully Sakura Taisen 4 will do Kohran some justice which I don't have much expectation considering the game was too rushed to even give the proper closure for the main heroines.
