Psycho Pass Proplica Dominator Review

After sitting in storage for a few years, I finally got to open one of my rarer collectibles: Bandai’s Proplica for the iconic weapon from Psycho-Pass—the Dominator. While it isn’t originally an extremely expensive item, it has become quite rare these days, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that my unit still works perfectly despite years of relative neglect.

Bandai’s Proplica line focuses on detailed replicas of anime props, often including electronic features for added interactivity. It sits between their DX and CSM-style collectible lines in terms of complexity and presentation. The Proplica Dominator in particular feels closer to a high-end “CSM-like” prop replica in spirit, given its focus on functionality and voice integration.

In Psycho-Pass, the Dominator is a futuristic enforcement weapon used by agents of the Sibyl System to assess and neutralize criminals. It shares a conceptual similarity with Judge Dredd’s Lawgiver in that it is a regulated weapon that cannot be freely used, instead requiring system authorization before activation. The weapon features multiple modes, most notably Paralyzer, which incapacitates targets, and Lethal Eliminator, which delivers a high-powered energy discharge intended to eliminate threats under specific conditions, often resulting in a violent burst of gore.

While the Proplica version is not on the same level as the Cerevo release which comes closest to fully replicating the Lethal Eliminator functionality, it remains a very solid and accessible replica of one of Psycho-Pass’ most iconic object, strongly reflecting its dystopian themes. The included gimmicks are more than sufficient for most fans, particularly the range of Sibyl System voice lines, including performances by veteran voice actress Noriko Hidaka.

I was fortunate enough to obtain a brand-new unit for around 70 USD few years ago, which feels like a bargain considering that aftermarket prices now often range between 200–300 USD. I’m also delighted that my copy remains in near-perfect working condition, which speaks well of the build quality of Bandai’s upper mid-tier collectible products. At this point, finding a fully functional Proplica Dominator for under 100 USD can genuinely be considered lucky.
