A Year with Arknights

Another Gacha Game that lasted more than a year for me which is quite an achievement considering my devotion toward FGO. Arknights might not surpass its gap with FGO yet, but it is still ahead compared to Azurlane and seems to be going in the right direction with its recent content. So at very least Arknights successfuly managed to carve out a sizable chunk of the Gacha Pie for itself

Last year before the COVID pandemic breaks loose in my place, I was attracted with Arknights due to Skadi which debuted in Arknights first event and this lovely Orca waifu is the main reason i stayed for this game.

Overall Arknights still doesn't have what it takes to surpass FGO with the latter's superior production value, but still maintain a potential to do so. Compared to FGO, Arknights still has plenty room for improvement as it is exploiting the gap left by the former. Arknights have easier time to expand since it is not tied down to outdated core gameplay mechanics and have more liberty when it comes to crossover projects which still remains to be one of the major issue for FGO.

The introduction of roguelike gameplay in the recent Arknights fungimist event is also boon for the game as it adds good replayability while addressing the roster bloat issue at the same time but maintaining the relevance of the effort spent on the operators. So in conclusion the horizontal approach taken by Hypergryph on Arknights paid off its dividend quite well in recent times.

So over the span of one year, i managed to net myself over 23 6-Star operators which is 4 times the amount of the SSR that i got from my first year with FGO, Pity Rate and Top Operator tags certainly help. Even if Arknights still can't compete in waifu department with FGO, they still got some good ones which i am fortunate to have most of them save for 5* Vanguard Reed. To be honest i am able to achieve this since i poured some money with the game and being Dolphin in Arknights is way more rewarding compared to FGO because spending 80 USD for an SQ pack only to have them disappear into thin air is never fun. Probably Bagpipe's first banner is when i spent the most money on Arknights and fortunately doesn't have to do the same thing during W's Banner even if the latter drained my Prime Originium reserve.

So far the major bottleneck in Arknights still remain to be LMD and Prime Originium currency. Because for the former, you will never have enough with the minuscule amount earned in the game and the required LMD investment for 6* OPs and this is the main reason i still have no E2 Level 90 Operators yet. I think it will still take 3 months for me with monthly subscription to E2 all of my current 6* OPs but i will enjoy the grind while it last.

As for the Prime Originums which is almost equivalent to FGO's Paid Saint Quartz, there are no way to earn this currency once you claimed all of the reserve from the story mode unless Event quest are around and you even won't get any from Event rerun if you claimed it before. This is how Yostar forced the players to spend money on Arknights so never squander yours and save it for skins instead.

For the Arknights future Banners, i will be looking forward to these three banners the most. Blemishine probably will be the earlieast since it is probably up around on late March/Early April so i can't really spare much for Surtr since i look forward for Blemishine more. I think people will whale quite hard once Kaltsit's banner is around.

Overall Arknights remains a solid gacha game that constantly improve by exploiting the weakness of FGO and it will continue to grow its potential with the constant influx of good contents like the recent Rainbow 6 Crossover for CN server and Fungimist event for Global
