After Gundam UC Engage in late 2023, recently Bandai decide to step up their game in Mobile platform yet again and make use of their well-established SD G Generation series and make a Gacha game out of it. Thus around Mid-April 2025, Gundam has officially made their latest Gundam Mobile Game called SD G Generation Eternal open for service!
As somebody who got deep into Gundam series owing to G-Generation and even learnt Japanese out of it, I obviously obliged to reply the invitation and pre-register SD G-Generation Article. While I could have straight away post article for this game to attract traffic, I decide to spend around 10 days to take a good look at G-Generation Eternal and make proper article out of it. This article will be Realm of Darkness take on G-Generation Eternal as Gacha Game and provide an appraisal of G-Generation Eternal potential as G-Generation title based on my past encounter experiences with the series.
Being the latest main Iteration of G-Generation series since Cross-Rays in 2019, G-Generation Eternal offers a Bite-sized experience of G Generation in Mobile Platform allowing low barrier of accessibility with its F2P Mobile Game format. G-Generation Eternal is probably the easiest gateway for people to get into Gundam and G-Generation series so far with international language support considering most as Bandai intended considering most of the previous titles was only in Japanese even if they got fan translation. Even the previous G-Gen Mobile games 15 years ago didn't have such extensive support.
Most likely trying to live up to its namesake, Gundam’s Universal Century and Alternate Universe era are united once again in G-Generation Eternal after being split for more than a decade in the previous iteration. G-Generation Eternal even feature the latest Gundam series like Witch from Mercury and GQux. Both new players and G-Gen vets will get something out of G-Generation Eternal even if the game formula have been altered to fit in its current medium.
Just like
its previous iterations, G Generation Eternal is a turn-based strategy Gundam
game featuring Mecha units from Gundams in SD Format making use of the assets from
Genesis and Cross Ray. Compared to previous G-Gen titles, G Generation Eternal
is more streamlined as the team-building elements of the series gets simplified.
Now the players no longer draft Teams revolved around Battleships and instead
draft a Killteam of Gundam units. In G Gen Eternal, now the Mobile suit units
along with Pilots are also separated into 3 categories of DPS, Defender and
Support attack.
Compared to previous G-Gen titles, Gaming balance is relatively off the table
in G-Gen Eternal just like UC Engage where Unit and Pilot rarity straight out
determine the value of the units in the battlefield. But hopefully there will
be means to improve rarity of the pilots because I do wish the original G-Gen
casts could be more viable.
G-Generation Eternal features Gundam series from both UC and AU Gundam timelines as playable stages, using the opportunity to have the available main stages as summarized story retelling medium. Obviously given the size of Gundam series over the span of 40+ years, not all of the Gundam series are available from the get-go but G-Gen Eternal is the right medium for Bandai to make it serve as the Portal for all Main gundam series. Considering this sort of project size do require the work divided throughout a roadmap since even the last attempt forced G Generation split into two parts. It will be a sight to behold once G-Generation Eternal have 90% of main Gundam series available as playable stages.
Like the previous G-Generations, player access stronger Mobile suits by Evolving units but this is another aspect that becomes more streamlined G-Generation mobile feature. This time the players no longer need to grind individual units to reach the necessary level to evolve and got tech trees for each series for easier access. However due to the Gacha nature of this game, the best units are still the URs from the Gacha roll which are expensive just like UC Engage and other typical Japanese gacha game.
Currently in the first month of service, G-Generation Eternal have 490+ available Mobile Suit units which mostly can be accessed through grinding with a fraction of Gacha exclusives. Not as much compared to the console G-Generation counterpart but the roster could easily reach 2000+ when the Dev have accumulated enough time and effort for the game. G-Generation Eternal also new units such as Gyan Krieger, Ecole Du Ciel series and Ez-8 Space variants which are not even available on Genesis & Cross Rays so the G-Gen Vets who have played those two could have something to look forward to.
In G-Gen Eternal, so far only units above SR rarity are good enough to be invested resources with SSRs being the bare minimum for later harder stages like the challenge stage. After clocking around 10 days, I got myself 4 UR units with some extra copies being a game changer with its significant stat boosts. The best unit in my roster is surprisingly my favorite Shiro Amada with his Ez-8 from 08th MS team who is capable of dealing High DPS, something that is not even possible in previous G-Generation. EZ-8’s limited movement in Space Maps does not even hinder Shiro to hit harder than Sazabi, that do tell something!
If G-Gen Eternal is your first game in this series or if you wish to progress faster through the content of this game with incoming SEED event, here are some couple pointers:
- For your first Gacha, you can reroll as many times as possible. While you will only ever get 1 UR units from the roll, you can get several SSR units in one go. So getting your target UR + 4-5 SSRs is overall a good starting hand. Sazabi tend to be popular pick since I choose him due to personal preference
- Prioritize maxing your UR units which will allow you to steamroll main stages in faster paces
- Invest 5 units from the respective Gundam series for each Main Stages series because you will also need to rely on these for completing parts of the Starter challenge quests
- UR units with Mobility Penalty can still hit harder than most units if they can reach the enemy
- Use battleship support that synergize with all of the unit in your Team draft, the bonus damage can get handy in the future
- Unlike previous G-Gen where Units need to return to Battleship to replenish their HP&EN. So far Healing can only be accessed to Battleship support so try not to have your main DPS accumulate too much damage if you want a perfect run.
As a gacha game, G Generation Eternal is overpriced like UC Eternal and most of its Japanese peers. The players can’t expect much Gacha Currency from the daily grind and at the mercy of the handouts from the game. But compared to UC Engage, G Generation Eternal still have plenty of rooms to grow. With the potential of this series easily surpasses everything due to its access to G-Generation legacy which spans over 20+ years. Not to mention the game still got plenty of assets to tap from to increase its unit counts until 1000+. While I hope the game able to reach its rightful throne with its potential, I do hope Bandai could consider another series like Gihrens Greed a chance with the gacha format should G-Generation Eternal prove to be successful enough.
