Lord El-Melloi II Case Files - Rail Zeppelin Grace Note

Few days ago i gave myself a time to watch this particular Fate series spin off and it certainly washes off the bad aftertaste of previous anime that i watched. I have been taking a close watch to El Melloi II Case files since its Event Campaign on FGO JP around mid of this year. In short, if you are a fan of Nasuverse you will be in for a treat with this particular Lord El Melloi Case Files anime!

From what i know Lord El Melloi Case files are Light Novel series created a while after Fate/Zero anime, featuring Waver Velvet one of the surviving 4th Holy Grail War Master as the main character. The Novel cover's Waver's adventures as Lord El-Melloi II where he investigates mysterious cases involving magic which usually revolve around murder. During his investigation, Waver is accompanied by his Apprentice; Gray, a mysterious teenage girl who wield an artifact that had mysterious ties with King Arthur serving as a fighter when things resort to violence.

Basically Lord El Melloi II Case files are your Fate flavor of Detective story like Sherlock Holmes/Detective Conan with a healthy dose of Nasuverse magic. For the anime adaptation, The Rail Zeppelin Grace Note are picked as the choice case. In this particular story main highlight, Lord El Melloi II will board a magical train that host Mystic Eyes Auction in order to retrieve an artifact stolen from him. Through this adventure he will encounter his rival just like Moriarty's to Sherlock as well as a Servant related to King Alexander who is out for Waver's blood.

As a Nasuverse fans you will find good amount of cameos from Fate/Grand Order and Tsukihime. I was quite pleased as a Typemoon fan that there are something thrown into the mix after a decade long of absence. Studio Troyca did a good job for this particular adaptation and i think fans will easily accept another Fate related works made by them. Overall El Melloi Case Files provide a means to expand Nasuverse without relying on series with emphasis on action that easily turned out half-baked like Apocrypha.

In any case the strategy that Type Moon commit for their portfolio is quite something as they manage to create their own strong brand, something even equivalent to Disney's Marvel. By having Fate series as the center piece of Nasuverse with Fate Grand/Order as the main representative, and then expanding the Nasuverse with Spin-Off works like the Apocrypha, Last Encore or El Melloi Case files. Regardless whether the Spin-Off titles succeeds or flops, a value will be still added to the central series. As long as Type-Moon doesn't commit any serious mistakes, their strategy will ensure that they will survive for quite a long time.
