Transformers x Evangelion - Evangelion Prime 01

Transformers and Evangelion are two pop-culture franchises that often show up in crossover collaborations, so it was only a matter of time before they met and the result is definitely worth the wait. Takara Tomy has announced an exciting new release: Evangelion Prime, an Optimus Prime figure themed after Evangelion Unit-01. It’s scheduled for release in August 2026, priced at ¥11,000. 

This isn’t the first time Optimus has received a special makeover. Previous collaborations have included Monster Hunter, Zoids, and Macross, and this new Evangelion-themed Optimus is sure to stand out even more. But don’t mistake this for a simple repaint. Evangelion Prime goes all the way with the aesthetic, incorporating more than just the signature color scheme.

Among the accessories, Evangelion Prime comes equipped with the Spear of Longinus, one of Evangelion’s most iconic weapons. For casual Transformers collectors, this version of Optimus works perfectly as a substitute for Nemesis Prime, and arguably outshines some of Takara’s stranger crossover designs like the Evangelion “gattai” mecha that combined Godzilla, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman a few years ago.

Given the consistent quality of Takara Tomy’s design team, it’s safe to say we can expect even more themed Optimus designs in the future. If Evangelion Prime is any indication, the next collaboration could be even more impressive.
